The plants in Mátyásdomb and Hódmezővásárhely process Category 3 animal by-products collected from slaughterhouses. The processing yields poultry meal, feather meal, blood products, biogas feedstock, mixed animal protein meal, and feed fat products. A portion of these products is sold as raw material for pet food manufacturing.
Category 1 and 2 animal by-products are processed at ATEV Zrt.'s facilities in Solt and Debrecen. These materials arrive either directly from livestock farmers or via the company's collection and transfer stations in Bőny, Böhönye, Hódmezővásárhely, and Debrecen. The collection and transfer stations were established across various regions of Hungary to optimize and rationalize transport distances for Category 1 and 2 animal by-products.
The Solt plant operates two processing lines, dedicated separately to Category 1 and Category 2 materials:
Category 2 Processing: Produces biogas feedstock (stickwater).
Category 1 Processing: Produces meat meal prepared for incineration.
Both processes generate animal fat (Category 1 and 2). (Notably, the Solt plant is the sole facility in the country processing Category 1 animal by-products.)
At the Debrecen plant, the primary goal of the processing cycle is converting Category 2 animal by-products into organic soil improver raw material—specifically Category 2 meat and bone meal—which also produces Category 2 animal fat as a by-product.
Energy & Commercial Fat Utilization:
Category 1 and 2 animal fats are sold to biodiesel producers.
Alternatively, the plants in Debrecen, Solt, and Hódmezővásárhely can burn animal fat on-site to generate thermal energy for processing operations. Since 2025, fat incineration capabilities have also been available at the Mátyásdomb plant.
Wastewater Treatment:
Wastewater generated during processing is treated in on-site wastewater (pre-)treatment facilities operating within the plant grounds.
Sewage sludge produced by these treatment facilities is composted at sites operated by Biokomposzt Zrt., a member of the group.
Landfill Monitoring:
In the past, the company also disposed of animal carcasses via landfilling and continues to oversee these sites today. Groundwater monitoring operations are active across most of these locations.
